Why train in kung fu?
There are many benefits when you practice kung fu. Among them are:
Whole body workout
Kung fu techniques and movements involve multi-planar motions. So, you will be working out your entire body. You don’t just push with your arms only. There are instances when you will reach, bend your body sideways, crouch low, turn and kick, etc., etc. The repertoire of movements is vast. Most importantly, you will develop a structurally balanced body. This means that you will not work only on one muscle group. The kung fu program will activate multiple muscle groups - It will be a whole body workout.
High-definition muscle tone
Martial arts training typically help you to build muscle tone and definition, not bulky muscles like in bodybuilding. In kung fu training, the high movement repertoire helps you develop striated muscles throughout your whole body.
Relieve stress, elevate mood for better mental health
Kung fu training helps relieve stress and burn off pent-up energy accumulated from our daily lives. The physical training from kung fu elevates mood and helps you to focus better. Physical activity stimulates the production of endorphins, which is a natural painkiller and enhances mood. You will have a more positive outlook on life.
Check out the article about coping with the stress from our daily lives.
Learn self-defence
Kung fu is a form of Chinese martial art in which you will learn self defence techniques. Having self-defence knowledge and strategies will help you negotiate or prevent difficult situations and allows you to be more confident.
Apply physical skills in activities of daily living ADL
Kung fu teaches you techniques to utilize your body leverage to your advantage. This means that you can maximize your strength with minimal effort. If you are able to apply the techniques learnt from kung fu to activities of daily living, ADL, you’ll be more effective in your activities and movement. This translates to lower injury risks.
Improve confidence and self image
With better coordination, improved strength, and more effective movements, you will be assured of yourself. Your outlook toward life will be more optimistic. So, kung fu training can help you improve your confidence and self-image.
